Decisions, Opinions, and Related Records, 1950–1957

1950-1957

This series consists of legal opinions of the General Counsel, legal and legislative histories, and a numerical file of decisions relating to World War II-related property claims of American citizens against foreign governments. The decisions for Public Law 84-285 document the legal history, precedent, and analysis used in determining cases. These decisions established legal precedents for the activities of the Foreign Claims Settlement Commission. The series also includes internal regulations and orders. The records were originally created and maintained by the War Claims Commission. In 1954, they were transferred to the Foreign Claims Settlement Commission, where they were maintained by the Office of the General Counsel.
